Monday night 3/5

Went to a reading of a play that didn’t do particularly well on Broadway back in 2015.  It lasted like 5 months so not a flop nor a success.  For whatever reason David Hyde Pierce who directed it pulled as many of the original cast that he could get and they did a reading at the 92nd St. Y.  I am not sure why it wasn’t more popular because its very funny.  Moves right along with good dialogue.  There’s a great part in it for the theatres version of a stereotypical Jewish Mother.
In the Broadway show it was Tyne Daly and we were lucky enough to see her playing the role again for this one night.  Of course, I remember watching her on Cagney and Lacey and Judging Amy but this was my first time to see her on stage and I hope it’s not my last.  She can deliver a line and a look with the best.
Fan of her brother Tim Daly currently on Madam Secretary..,from time to time there’s talk about them doing something together I hope I am in New York when they do.  Their father James Daly was also an actor but you would have to be as old as I am to remember him on TV years ago in a show called Medical Center.   Big fan of Uber when in NYC so much easier than flagging down a cab and there cleaner.

Tuesday afternoon went to another reading of a new musical headed to Broadway.  This should sound familiar...remember Dustin Hoffman in a movie called Tootsie.  Well it’s been adapted for the stage and the producer is showing it to potential investors.  A reading by the way is just what it sounds like...no costumes and no sets just music stands to hold the scripts and people to read the parts.

The movie wasn’t a musical but some great songs have been written and the story is a tiny bit different and it’s laugh out loud funny.  It’s going to open in Chicago first this fall and if all goes well it would hit Broadway in the Spring of next year.  The lead part of Tootsie was read by Santino Fontana who I first became aware of last year when he had a major role in My Crazy Ex Girlfriend.  The show got to goofy for me so stopped watching it but I really like him and he can pull this off.  Currently he has stepped into Hello Dolly to cover for someone who had to have back surgery but I do believe when it opens in Chicago he will be the lead.
Will know more after lunch tomorrow,

That’s all more than you probably want to know.

Oh and guess who made what ahe thought was an educated guess to leave her snow boots at home because they were to heavy and wouldn’t fit in the suitcase.  Had to buy news ones to get to today’s plays.
They worked really well.  This is long enough more on today tomorrow.  Don’t trust long range forecasts because Mother Nature doesn’t read them and plan accordingly.
